Each year, nearly 4,000 homeless pets enter OCHS’s care; however, there are not enough adopters in our area to adopt these pets. OCHS processes fewer than 1,000 adoptions each year.
To address this shortfall, OCHS operates the OCHS Express, a regional animal relocation program which serves two dozen North Mississippi animal welfare organizations. Through the OCHS Express, adoptable pets overlooked in overcrowded Mississippi shelters are transported north where there is an abundance of adopters.
Our friends with the BISSELL Pet Foundation learned about this critical life-saving work and offered to support our efforts to construct a building which will fill a critical need to safely house animals as they wait for their van (or plane!) ride north. This holiday season, BISSELL Pet Foundation is matching 1:1 your gift to help raise the woof at OCHS, up to $100,000. If we meet our goal, construction can start right away!
In the past year, more than 3,800 homeless pets entered our care. Because of supporters like you, 95.2% of those dogs, cats, guinea pigs, and more found their forever homes – a number that exceeds state and national averages! This incredible life-saving percentage would not be possible without the OCHS Express which saves 3,000+ cats and dogs each year.
